The Altman Building Overview

The Altman Building is a historic landmark and a premiere venue in the heart of Chelsea. Established in 1896 as the carriage house for the B. Altman Department store, The Altman Building is now a private versatile event venue emanating old world charm and boasting 13,500 square feet over two floors. Our original, double hinged mahogany French doors, connect directly to the street to allow for easy ground-level load-in and a breathtaking entrance for guests. Upon entering the space, clients are greeted with exposed vaulted brick ceilings, natural oak hardwood floors, and floor to ceiling bay windows that provide the space with a cascade of natural light. The unparalleled ambiance of The Altman Building allows transformation to be as limitless as your imagination. Enjoy the convenience and luxury of having our entire space yours for the day. Our beautiful first floor is virtually column free, allowing for any ceremony set up of your choice. After ceremony, guests are escorted downstairs for a cocktail hour while the main floor gets transformed into your reception space. Ideal wedding capacity for The Altman Building is 225 for a wedding with a ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. We also specialize in up to 550 person “cocktail-style” wedding receptions. The Altman Building is an elegant, memorable and exciting venue to host your special day. The exceptional staff works with the building’s striking architectural details to impeccably transform The Altman Building into the romantic venue you’ve always dreamed of. Venue Notes

The rental fee ranges from $9,500 to $11,500 for a reception and includes 12 hours of event time including set up and clean up time. The fee for a ceremony only wedding ranges from $9,500 to $11,500. Additional hours can be arranged for a fee of $750/hr. A refundable security deposit of $1,000 is required.
